Memorizing the Preamble: F.E.I.P.S.O.E.

IMG_20150527_204820I require my students to memorize the Preamble to the Constitution. To help them, I suggest this mnemonic: F.E.I.P.S.O.E. (pronounced, fipe so ), which is the first letter of every verb in this 52-word sentence. Take a look:

We the people of the United States, in order to Form a more perfect union, Establish justice, Insure domestic tranquility, Provide for the common defense, Promote the general welfare,  Secure thr blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity, do Ordain and Establish this Constitution of the United States of America.
